Hug Point Elopement | Kelsey + Braxton
Windswept Coastal Elopement Inspiration at Hug Point
Hug Point is definitely one of my favorite places on the Oregon Coast. Only 10 minutes from Cannon Beach, but has completely different views and rock types, and also far less crowds than its highly popular neighbor. The rock formations at Hug Point are warm sandstone where ombre gold tones and caves are shaped by the incoming tides. We were lucky on the day of this shoot as the seasonable waterfall was going strong! This particular park boasts over 40 acres of beach and cliffs, but is lined with forests as well, so you get the best of both worlds.
Some tips on getting married at this location: Low tide is going to be best to utilize the entire area. The waterfall is on the side not accessible at high tide. If you have your heart set on having the waterfall as a backdrop, spring will be the best time after the winter rains. There is a parking lot, which makes this location very easy to access with no serious hiking needed. Photography at the Oregon Coast is almost always best near sunset, but the afterglow right after sunset is some of my favorite light for this location. Some of the best colors and textures happen during that magic bit of time for about 20 mins after the sun goes below the horizon, so make sure to plan that into your timeline for sunny days.
